Keep your product IDs independent
Assign a stable internal identity to each customer-facing product and store the supplier’s service ID separately. That separation makes it easier to change fulfilment without rewriting every customer record. Retain the original supplier mapping on each historical order so an old support request can still be traced after your catalog changes.
Review specification changes
A provider can change a service description, quantity limit or rate. Decide which fields can update automatically and which require review before customers see the change. A cheaper replacement with a similar title may have different targeting or support terms. Do not let a rate import silently change the deliverable you have promised.
Control the pricing calculation
Write down whether your margin is a markup on supplier cost or a percentage of the final selling price. These are different calculations. Account for the quantity unit and currency before applying either. Test a few sample rates manually, including very low rates where rounding could erase the intended margin.
Reconcile outcomes using both IDs
Store the local order reference and supplier order reference together. When a request times out, investigate whether the supplier accepted it before retrying. Record partial delivery and refund decisions explicitly rather than overwriting the original quantity. This keeps customer balances, supplier costs and support explanations aligned as your order volume grows.
Should importing a provider catalog automatically publish every service?
Not by default. Review scope, pricing and requirements so imported entries match what you are prepared to sell and support.
