Record both currencies
Keep the external payment amount and the credited panel amount in their original currencies. Note any conversion rate or fee disclosed by the payment service. Do not compare the two numeric amounts directly when they use different units.
Use a defined accounting rate
For internal budgeting, select the actual transaction conversion when available. If you use an estimate before payment, label it as an estimate and update it after the receipt arrives. Separate exchange differences from changes in the selected service rate.
Reconcile at the deposit level
One converted deposit may fund several orders. Allocate its cost consistently across those orders, rather than recalculating each historical purchase using today's exchange rate. Confirm account balance currency before approving a campaign quote.
Decision checklist
| Decision | What to check |
|---|---|
| Payment | Receipt currency |
| Balance | Panel currency |
| Allocation | Consistent deposit conversion |
Worked example
In a hypothetical transaction, 500 local currency units credit $10 of panel balance. A $2 order consumes one fifth of that deposit, so its allocated funding cost is 100 local units before any separately recorded fees.
Example figures explain the decision; they are not current prices or promised results.
