Record parallel distribution
Note relevant newsletter mentions, website embeds, partner forwards and other campaign activity during the observation period. You do not need to attribute every viewer to keep a useful timeline. The goal is to avoid treating the order as the only possible source of change.
Use comparable observations
Capture the same message's metric at defined times and retain the order status separately. Avoid comparing different message copies or different date windows without explaining the difference. A report should make clear whether it describes an observed total or a service-recorded quantity.
Report the uncertainty honestly
Where source-level attribution is unavailable, state the measured increase and the purchase record side by side. Do not subtract a hypothetical organic baseline and present the remainder as verified paid delivery. Future campaign decisions are better served by clear evidence than by an invented precise split.
Decision checklist
| Decision | What to check |
|---|---|
| Timeline | Other distribution events |
| Metric | Same message and window |
| Attribution | Observed change versus source proof |
Worked example
In a hypothetical launch, a message gains 1,400 views while an order and a partner forward overlap. The total change can be reported, but assigning exactly 1,000 to the order and 400 to the partner requires evidence beyond the shared timing.
Example figures explain the decision; they are not current prices or promised results.
