Build a target ledger
Give each target its own row with the intended action, quantity, service identifier, and charge. Do not assume a batch price divides equally across all links. Some targets may use different listings or fail eligibility checks before purchase.
Choose the useful average
Total spend divided by target count produces an average cost per target, but it does not describe any individual order. Keep the detailed rows beside the average. Use a weighted calculation when comparing campaigns with different quantity distributions.
Track failed submissions separately
A rejected input should not be counted as a successfully purchased target merely because it appeared in the campaign file. Confirm whether a charge occurred and whether a replacement target was approved before adjusting either the count or total spending.
Decision checklist
| Decision | What to check |
|---|---|
| Target | One canonical content link |
| Spend | Actual associated charge |
| Average | Context for the campaign |
Worked example
A hypothetical campaign spends $2 on target A, $3 on B, and $7 on C. Its average is $4 per target, but reporting every target as a $4 purchase would hide the larger allocation to C.
Example figures explain the decision; they are not current prices or promised results.
